I have a very ACTIVE boy, and light sleeper, it got me very concern about his grown, health, brain development. As our boy doesn't like a lot of naps since young, and he only have 1 nap like 90-120 mins. Then I start to "research" (basically is google, youtube, facebook) about sleep. As new parents, we also check with the pediatrician, to ensure our boy is OK.
The Pediatrician Dr D ask us "how long he sleep at night?"
us "about from 9:30pm to 9:30am"
Dr D ask again " how about nap duration?"
us "normally from 1:30pm to 3:30pm"
So he said "so in total he sleep about 14 hours in a day, according to his age (11 months), that is ok. Every children are different, but as long as he has enough sleep, that is ok"
That advice us.
But from time to time, we still aware of the duration of his sleep every day. Now he is 20 months, sleeping 10 hours at night and 90-120 mins at nap
There are different guidelines given by different organization, below is one of guideline from Parents.com.
|Age||Total Sleep needed||Nighttime sleep||nap|

I hope this guidelines helps.
